Bassam is a Jewish-Arab spoken word poet from Toronto, Canada. He is the grand champion of the Guelph Poetry Slam (2016) and the Burlington Slam Project (2015), and has participated at national and international poetry slam competitions across North America.
Bassam’s love of social justice is reflected beyond the bounds of poetry: he is a vocal advocate for the rights of Palestinians and an active member of Independent Jewish Voices (IJV) Canada. Bassam also advocates for eating disorder awareness and recovery as a regular showcase performer for the National Initiative for Eating Disorders (NIED).
This spring, Bassam releases ‘mouth:/poem.smile‘, his first poetry chapbook and full-length spoken word album. Look for his forthcoming book release with GenZ Publishing, as well as his “Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys” North American tour, in the fall of 2016.
