The Lost Lake Monster Creates for the Perfect Distraction: A Press Release

Will Callie ever be ready to face reality and save her relationships?

Aberdeen, NJ, April 7th, 2021-Sophia DeRise’s debut work, The Facts and Legends of Callie Catwell, promises to captivate its audience with the story of a girl struggling to grow up while also staying true to herself.  Callie already has plenty of worries in her life—a father struggling with anorexia, a friend with an abusive stepfather, an ex-boyfriend who won’t let their relationship go, and questioning her own sexuality which leads her to explore possible feelings for her best friend.

On top of all this, things take a turn for the weirder when she encounters a monster one morning in the Lost Lake. Callie becomes obsessed with the monster and its magic, using it as an excuse to escape her life and its problems.

Sophia DeRise is an author based in Philadelphia with a passion for writing and reading. In addition to The Facts and Legends of Callie Catwell,  DeRise is also writing and producing an audio drama titled The Summer the Monsters Came Out, set to be released this summer.  DeRise has also written a one-act play about an eccentric scientist who uses unorthodox methods to try and spend more time with his family.
