Haunted by what occurred a year ago, seventeen-year-old, Matthew Saylor moves to the small, eerie town of Snows’ End, Maine, hoping the grief of his twin brother’s violent outbursts and subsequent attempted murder-suicide won’t follow. However, when his parents find comfort in the local Catholic church, Matt grows hesitant – and obsessive– of its past. Behind their church-pure smiles is a string of murders linked to the priest and the charming, too perfect volunteer, Harry. As Matt’s fixation heightens, he breaks into the church hoping to find evidence, but instead discovers details of his own past, providing more questions than answers. Why do they know more about his biological mother than him? Why does Harry share a similar past to Matt with a dead, disquieting twin?
When the church’s sinister practices are revealed, they threaten Matt, his family and one of his one real friend, Sophie, along with a churchgoer’s newborn baby who Harry promises to purify in the eyes of God. If Matt wants to save them, he’ll need to confront not just Harry, but his own past – unraveling everything he knows about his brother, his family and himself.
